The Boeing 777-200LR (Long Range) is the ultra-long-range variant of the 777 family. It holds the world record for the longest non-stop commercial flight, capable of flying up to 15,843 km (9,845 miles). It is designed specifically for ultra-long thin routes that could not be served economically by larger aircraft. The GE90 engines fitted to the LR are the most powerful turbofan engines ever certified for commercial aviation.

The Boeing 777 family has an excellent safety record and is widely regarded as one of the most reliable commercial aircraft ever built. The GE90 engines are exceptionally reliable and powerful. The 777 was the first commercial aircraft to be designed entirely using computer-aided design tools.

The 777-200LR has a maximum range of approximately 15,843 km, making it capable of flights exceeding 17 hours. It can connect almost any two cities on the planet non-stop, including routes like New York to Hong Kong or Los Angeles to Dubai.

Typically 250-317 passengers in a two or three-class configuration. Due to its extreme range mission, airlines often configure it with generous business class sections. Economy is typically in a 3-3-3 layout (nine across), though some airlines use 3-4-3.

In business class, seats with direct aisle access are most desirable — check your specific airline's seat map. In economy, avoid the centre block of 3 or 4 seats if possible. Window seats in rows 20-35 over the wing give the smoothest ride and least noise.

The GE90 engines are the world's most powerful commercial turbofan engines, producing a distinctive deep roar on takeoff. However, at cruise altitude, the cabin is reasonably quiet. The rear of the cabin is noisier than the front, particularly on takeoff and climb.

Major operators include Delta Air Lines, Pakistan International Airlines, Air India, and Emirates. It is a relatively rare aircraft compared to the more common 777-300ER, with around 60 aircraft delivered. Its ultra-long range makes it ideal for specialist routes.

The 777-200LR is designed for exactly these ultra-long missions. Business class on most operators is fully flat-bed. Economy comfort depends heavily on the airline and configuration — the 3-3-3 layout is acceptable, while 3-4-3 is tight for very long flights. Bring noise-cancelling headphones and a good neck pillow.

Entertainment systems vary by airline. Major long-haul operators like Delta and Emirates offer large personal screens with extensive content libraries. On very long flights, entertainment quality makes a significant difference to the overall experience.

The 777 is an extremely stable and large aircraft. Its size means it handles turbulence very well compared to smaller jets. The twin GE90 engines are exceptionally powerful and reliable. The aircraft's long service history and outstanding safety record make it one of the most reassuring choices for nervous flyers.
